Here and now

She has disclosed domestic abuse. On being asked the HARK questions, she admits to submitting to sexual assault as she is desperate to get pregnant. Her husband frequently humiliates her in private and in public and mocks her because she has not become pregnant; he tells her it is her fault. As he has a son already, he knows it is not his fault.

Her narrative, the date and time of the consultation should be documented.

On assessment, she does not feel she is in immediate danger. She does not think there are any weapons in the house.

As her stepson does not live or stay with them, he is in no immediate danger. However, a safeguarding referral ought to be considered and discussed.

The situation is discussed with a senior colleague, who suggests a local advocacy organisation that specializes in immigration issues.

She is examined. Her injuries are minor and need no active treatment. They are documented on body diagrams. Her mobile phone has a camera, so she is happy to photograph the injuries with a ruler in view.

She does not want to end the relationship as she is in the process of organising IVF and feels this may be her only chance to have her own child.
